We are now accepting applications for a National Science Foundation (NSF) Graduate Teaching Fellows in K-12 Education (GK-12) Fellowship for August 1, 2010-July 31, 2011. This is a one year fellowship. We are currently concluding year four of five. The title of our NSF GK-12 program is Engineering in Practice for a Sustainable Future (EiP). Qualifications should include:
• Acceptance by OU Graduate College and an OU Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) program or department
• Pursuing an M.S. or Ph.D. in STEM
• Minimum 3.3/4.0 GPA or a GRE Score of 1200/1600 (quantitative + verbal score) or other indication of outstanding qualifications
• Interest in teaching and working with high school students and science teachers in nearby rural schools
Responsibilities include:
• Enroll in ENGR 4113/5113 in Fall 2010 (this is a three-hour course that meets Monday and Wednesday from 4:30 pm -5:45 pm).
• Spend 10 hours per week in local, rural science teachers’ classrooms (mentoring students; developing, implementing, and assessing authentic, inquiry science lessons).
• Spend 5 hours per week researching ideas for and working on authentic, guided inquiry science lessons.
• Attend quarterly meetings at OU with cooperating teachers and other Fellows.
• Attend EiP Seminar in Spring 2011 (typically this seminar meets one day per week for one hour).
• Participate in additional outreach opportunities throughout the school year and summer.
• Prepare for and participate in the Summer Engineering Academy at OU (6-day outreach program in July 2011).
